Topock Marsh

This image was made at Topock Marsh near Needles California next to the Colorado River. I saw the whimsical clouds and searched for something to put in the foreground. There was a lot of tall marsh grass, actually nothing but tall marsh grass.

In a Western Movie

This is a quite desolate place in New Mexico. I went to photograph there in the middle of summer somehow thinking it would be cooler there. And it was, in the morning, not so much as the day progressed. I feel lucky to be here writing this post after exhausting all of my water, becoming dehydrated in the 98 degree heat while aimlessly hiking up and down hills for hours searching for the way out under a bald sky with absolutely no shade in sight. I will not make that mistake again - I now carry more water, a GPS and a lot less camera gear - but I digress.

There are so many unusual geological formations here...when I topped the vista I felt like I was in an old western movie. This image was blended with an antique background and unfortunately with all of it's detail does not render well in a smaller format.

More images from here to come.

Bird at Water's Edge

This was a pleasant scene on a 114 degree day and I am certain that bird was cooler than I was. What first caught my eye were the rounded river rocks that look like large eggs corralled by the cement edge with symmetrical lines. Then as luck would have it a visitor arrived.

So was this bird getting a drink of water or just checking out his reflection?

Color or Black and White

My roots are in black and white photography but with a digital cameras everything is shot in color. I do have a vision before I make an image but it is so tempting to work in both color and black and white. Ultimately, I end up struggling trying to decide which image is better. It has become a terrible distraction and a significant waste of disk space.

All kidding aside, which image do you like better?

150 Images in 150 Days Project

I am really excited to be embarking on my next series of work as a photographer. I am calling this my "150 Images in 150 Days Project". Yes, I am really going to post an image everyday. I have a lot of recent and not so recent work I am looking forward to sharing. It's been difficult to find the time to update my website in the past but an important part of my "journey" will be sharing ideas with others through this blog. I am looking forward to receiving feedback; to learn from other people's insight and knowledge.

I hope you will visit often to see the image of the day.
